The transfer of Rev. Felix Lobo as a parish priest to St. Joseph’s church, Usgao in June of the year 2000 was a matter of great spiritual guidance, counseling, education and healing etc. to cater this problem the assistance of the Holy Family Sisters would be a help and accordingly he parish priest approached the Bishop and the Superior General of the Congregation of Holy Family Sisters with the proposal.
Later, the Bishop Filipe NeriFerrao, also requested the Superior General to send the sisters over here. Two councilors visited the place to see the residence of the sisters and informed the parish priest of a few alternatives to be made in the entire out lay of the existing rooms that would available for the use of sisters. Prior to the day of the beginning too we visited the place now and then to see whether everything is ready and fine. On 15th June 2001 again a councilor and some sisters came with luggage to arrange the place along with a carpenter to make a few fittings etc.
Finally in the evening of 16th June 2001 on our Foundation Day a group of three sisters namely Srs.Fremiot, Ana Rosada and Rupa took over this new venture. The Superior General, Rev. Maria Pia, Sr. Lydia the assistant General, Sr. Milena the General Secretary and many other sisters along with postulants and aspirants accompanied them by their bus from Sancoale. The parish priest, Fr. Felix Lobo along with some parishioners, warmly welcomed us. There was a special Eucharistic celebration offered wherein the parishioners too were present and then we were served cake and drink.
At present we are occupying some rooms of the Parochial House for the residence inclusive of kitchen and toilet, some dead stock is provided to us by the Generalate and some by the parish priest.
Our main apostolate here is –Pastoral work, teaching in the nursery and K.GSchool, visiting the families and listening to their joys and sorrows. The number of children on the roll has increased as sisters are conducting the pre- primary school and are very much involved with the people in all the parish activities.
People are very kind and loving, concerned open and receptive. Our Christian families houses are a bit far but the Hindus are around the church. Due to the floods many of our Catholics left this place. With God’s grace and blessings we trust that the seed of faith sown in the innocent hearts will yield an abundant harvest in God’s kingdom. With the same confidence we carry on the mission, which our founding sisters have started. At present in the year 2008 the animator of the community is Sr. Bella and the members are Srs. Helen and Matilda aspiring day in and out to be women of God’s Word to the people of Usgao.
