  • Faustino de Souza was Born : 24th November, 1893, at Anjuna.
  • Son of Mr. Romualdo Salvador das Chagas de Souza and Mrs. PreciosaCristalinaLudovina de Souza.Fr. Faustino de Souza was the second youngest child in the family of seven, four girls and three boys. The eldest boy died in infancy. The others were Estefania, Leocadia, Augusta, Fermino and Prisca
  • The First Sacrament of Baptism was received at the St. Michael’s Church, Anjuna.
  • The child was named Faustino Antonio João Jose de Souza and had Domingos Xavier de Souza as his godfather.

 Fromearly childhood Faustino showed signs of genuine vocation for the Priesthood. His father died, so his     mother Dona Preciosa educated her children with great responsibility. He was very intelligent, excellent and enthusiastic student.  Sincere and open hearted in his  attitude towards his companions. He was appointed as the Prefect of Discipline. He was sent for Philosophical and Theological Studies to the Patriarchal Seminary of Rachol. He was ordained Deaconat thePilar Monastery.

  • He was ordained priest by Dom Sebastiao Jose Pereira, Bishop of Daman, by the delegation of the Patriarch Dom Matheusd’Oliveira Xavier on 6th April, 1919, at the Pilar Monastery.
  • His dream began with the starting of the First Congregation for the Franciscan Brothers at Duler.
  • The Carmelites followed, the Capuchin Friar, the Jesuits and Salesian Fathers and then the Society of Pilar Fathers was reorganized.
  • He sensed that our sons and daughters were going outside Goa to join Religious Order because the Mother Houses of these Convents were outside Goa and for that reason, there should be a Religious order in Goa.
  • Father Faustino a zealous diocesan priest, pastor of the parish of Sancoale, Goa, seized this opportunity to move towards the execution of a cherished project that he had been harbouring in his mind and heart for quite a number of years.
  • The first batch of Sisters was sent to Mangalore for their Novitiate. Three young girls then proceeded to Mangalore to begin their training under the Bethany Sisters.
  • On the 16th of June, 1935,A New Congregation is born…. “Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth”
  • This Pious Union was canonically erected as a religious congregation by Patriarch Dom Jose de Costa Nunes, on the 25th of March, 1952.
  • Faustino lived for 40 years at the sancoale church.
  • Headopted a pastoral attitude
  • He loved the Tiny tots
  • He campaigned for Modesty
  • He encouraged Self-Help Industries
  • He had special love for theBlessed Sacrament and spent hours on his knees in deep prayer with the Lord. Faustino was the President of the committee for the Cause of Beatification of Ven.Fr. Joseph Vaz from 1934-1960.
  • Faustino published a few booklets: “KoxemGomtelemApovnnemasazalear?”, “GharantApovnnemVaddounk”& “ChoddeGorjecheoBudhi.”
  • Faustino returns to the Father…26th of March, 1975.
