Holy Family Convent Uchgaon belgaum

Most Rev. Bernard Moraes, the then Bishop of Belgaum, extended invitation to Holy Family Sisters to start a community in the Diocese of Belgaum. On the Pentecost day Bishop Bernard consulted the then Superior General Rev. Sr. Maria Pia and requested to offer the sisters at Belgaum.

On 28th May 1998, the Superior General along with Srs. Lydia, Carmen and Rosanna went to Belgaum to meet the Bishop, view the place and then to take the decision. Bishop and Fr. Peter introduced the mission areas and went to Adkur, Godoli, Nangard and Uachagaon. After going through the above places and observing them, sisters choose to open a community at Uchagaon and decided to inaugurate on 5th August as on that day our Blessed Joseph Vaz wrote a letter to Mother Mary.

Since there was a rented house available the sisters felt that they need to prepare and therefore they began on 24th June 1998 the feast of St. John the Baptist. Bishop Bernard, some diocese fathers and MSFS fathers celebrated the Holy Eucharist. Superior General Rev. Sr. Pia, Srs. Leonie Carmeline, Stephaine, Rosanna, Anita, Aurora, Milena, Novices of MSFS, some Holy Cross Sisters, neighbour and villagers joined in the celebration and prayed for the sisters.

Sisters felt that the first convent in the diocese of Belgaum should be named of the Congregation; therefore it was named Holy Family Convent. The pioneering sisters were Sr. Rosannne as the animator and the members were Srs. Anita Fernandes and Diana. Most Rev. Bernard Moraes the Bishop of Belgaum blessed and inaugurated the convent.

We also try to be channels of peace in the neighbouring villages through our family visits, BCC and counseling and tutorial classes. We also visit Hosur, Kenne, KowadTriwadi villages.
